OEE Calculator

Calculate Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) from availability, performance, and quality rates.

%
Actual run time / Planned production time × 100
%
Actual output / Maximum possible output × 100
%
Good parts / Total parts produced × 100
Formula
(availability * performance * quality) / 10000
availability Availability Rate (%)
performance Performance Rate (%)
quality Quality Rate (%)
Worked Example
1
Given:
availability = 90
performance = 95
quality = 99
2
Apply the formula:
(availability * performance * quality) / 10000
3
Result:84.645 %

What is OEE?

OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) is the gold standard KPI for measuring manufacturing productivity. It represents the percentage of planned production time that is truly productive.

OEE (%) = Availability × Performance × Quality

The Three Components

Availability Rate

Measures equipment uptime vs. planned production time.

  • Formula: (Planned Time − Downtime) ÷ Planned Time × 100
  • Target: > 90%

Performance Rate

Measures actual output vs. theoretical maximum output.

  • Formula: Actual Output ÷ Maximum Possible Output × 100
  • Target: > 95%

Quality Rate

Measures good products vs. total products produced.

  • Formula: Good Parts ÷ Total Parts × 100
  • Target: > 99%

World-class OEE for dairy plants is typically 75–85%.

Six Big Losses

OEE helps identify and eliminate the Six Big Losses:

  1. Equipment Failure (Availability)
  2. Setup and Adjustments (Availability)
  3. Idling and Minor Stoppages (Performance)
  4. Reduced Speed (Performance)
  5. Process Defects (Quality)
  6. Reduced Yield (Quality)
